Maritime Industry Compliance

Ship husbandry, including hull cleaning and ballast water management has become mandatory for registered shipping on a global basis.  SDP EcoCoast has worked with diving and maritime organisations since 2014 in order to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policies at IMO and national and port levels.  Clients and partners have included Schomberg Group, OSC Marine and Ayigobi.  Operations have been undertaken across southern Africa and Europe.

Renewable Energy

SDP Ecocoast has been involved in the planning, permitting and establishment of a number of renewable energy projects across southern Africa, Zambia and Rwanda.  Such evaluations have included bio physical evaluations, guidance on layout and operational management aspects. Protected Areas

Isimangaliso is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is noted as one of the most outstanding natural wetland and coastal sites of Africa.  The iSimangaliso Dune Management Programme was compiled to aid in the future management of the dune systems along some 250 kilometres of coastline.

Coastal Pollution

In 2017 and 2021, two significant cargo spills arose along the South African coastline, releasing plastic raw materials into the sea.  SDP EcoCoast, along with various salvage and other professionals collaborated in the mapping and retrieval of these materials along the KZN and Southern Cape coastlines of South Africa.  Our clients and partners have included AR Brink and Associates, DRIZIT Environmental, ITOPF and DFFE.

Coastal Planning

Club Med is a project undertaken for Tinley Leisure (Pty.) Ltd and is the largest tourism related projects to have been undertaken in KZN for over a decade.  The project spans several hectares of coastal dunes near the town of Tinley Manor, including a small estuary and wetland environments.
