ABOUT
The ecosystem is more than the sum of the parts.
The ecosystem
is more than the
sum of the parts.
The ecosystem is more than the sum of the parts.
Our philosophy is a hands on approach, where an understanding of the ecosystem in question, its relationship with surrounding habitats and environments are understood, with such understanding going into the biotic and abiotic elements of the system.
Our philosophies include:
- Promotion or maintenance of seral processes.
- Change in ecological environments is integral to the management of the system.
- Rewilding and taxa substitution in urban environments.
- Ecosystem management requires “controlled disturbance”.

WHAT WE DO
Project Diversity
Operations across the African coastline as well as Europe and the Indian Ocean Islands.
Club Med is a project undertaken for Tinley Leisure (Pty.) Ltd and is the largest tourism related projects to have been undertaken in KZN for over a decade. The project spans several hectares of coastal dunes near the town of Tinley Manor, including a small estuary and wetland environments.
In 2017 and 2021, two significant cargo spills arose along the South African coastline, releasing plastic raw materials into the sea. SDP EcoCoast, along with various salvage and other professionals collaborated in the mapping and retrieval of these materials along the KZN and Southern Cape coastlines of South Africa. Our clients and partners have included AR Brink and Associates, DRIZIT Environmental, ITOPF and DFFE.
SDP Ecocoast has been involved in the planning, permitting and establishment of a number of renewable energy projects across southern Africa, Zambia and Rwanda. Such evaluations have included bio physical evaluations, guidance on layout and operational management aspects. Clients have included Solar Capital, jUWi, Scatec Solar, CSIR and Veroniva.
Ship husbandry, including hull cleaning and ballast water management has become mandatory for registered shipping on a global basis. SDP EcoCoast has worked with diving and maritime organisations since 2014 in order to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policies at IMO and national and port levels. Clients and partners have included Schomberg Group, OSC Marine and Ayigobi. Operations have been undertaken across southern Africa and Europe.
SDP EcoCoast has had the privilege of supporting the planning and roll out of some of the most iconic residential estates on the KZN north coast. These developments include Zululami, Seaton, Dunkirk Estate, Zini River Estate and Palm Lakes. Clients have included Collins Residential, Balwin, Cenprop Pty Ltd and Royal Palm Developments.
